Milestones & Accomplishments

 

Support for the 2009 International PRRS Symposium, including the creation of a fellowship program that supported five non-U.S. Ph.D. students and continuing education credits for veterinarians,

 

Almost $900K devoted to research projects in immunology, vaccinology, epidemiology, ecology and host genetics, including the renewal of four projects,

 

Initiation and funding support for regional elimination projects in Michigan, Northern Minnesota, and Western Illinois,

 

Support for biosecurity tools, such PADRAP,

 

Creation of a set of common definitions that describe the PRRSV status of a herd,

 

Almost $50K awarded for the education of graduate and minority students,


Over $3 million dollars leveraged in support of CAP activities. Sources of leveraging were from universities, the National Pork Board, the federal government, private companies and individuals,

 

Launching of the new website, www.PRRS.org,

  

Delivery of workshops on diagnostics and regional elimination,

 

Support for the PRRS Host Genetics Consortium, a first of its kind project to study the role of host genetics,

 

Support for the NPB/CAP/AFRI principal investigator’s research conference.
